This month is Children’s Dental Health Month! We all know how important it is to take care of our own dental health, but let’s not forget about the kids! During February, dental health for kiddos is celebrated nationally. At Montclair Smile Design we love our tiny patients.
How Can We Help Children’s Dental Health?
One of the simplest choices to help with dental health is in regards to what our kiddos drink. Most parents realize that sugary drinks for anyone, especially children, are not the best options. The American Dental Association as well as many other medical professionals agree that choosing water over sugary drinks is a superior healthy choice. The ADA has several educational materials if anyone is interested in them! Let’s partner together to encourage our kids and those around us to choose fresh water over the bottled sugary business! If you do choose to give your children sugary things to drink (or eat!) please brush teeth right away!
And let’s not forget to schedule our children’s regular check ups as well. Most adults see the dentist two to three times per year and so should kids. Although baby teeth do fall out naturally to make room for the permanent ones, cavities in baby teeth can extend into the growing adult tooth below. This can cause permanent problems for adult dentition.
Children’s Dental Health Month Includes Teens Too!
“Children’s” dental health includes our teens as well. Statistically young teens can have a higher chance of developing cavities, especially in between teeth due to lack of flossing. Please encourage your teen to utilize their floss in addition to brushing and rinsing.
Forgot to schedule your children’s appointments as you left last time? No problem! Give us a call today or send us an email so that we can schedule a visit. Our teeth are vital to our health and our healthy smiles. Together we can maintain both!
Happy Children’s Dental Health Month from all of us at Montclair Smile Design!
