At Montclair Smile Design we practice and support all aspects of preventive dentistry, especially regular hygiene maintenance visits! We never want you to underestimate the importance of having your teeth cleaned on a regular basis, whether that means every three, four or six months. Just as your fingerprints are unique to just you, so is your mouth and teeth and therefore your dental needs. The base of the dental health pyramid is regular visits to your hygienist!
Classically an individual needs to have their teeth cleaned every six months. But there are times when there are other factors involved indicating the need for more frequent hygiene visits. By eliminating plaque and tartar more often you will help your overall dental health! Ever wonder how to reduce the potential for cavities? One of the biggest helps in that department is regular hygiene visits and excellent home care. So simple! One hour every few months coupled with a few minutes morning and night in the comfort of your own home.
You may hear us use alternate phrases for your visits, sometimes Hygiene Maintenance or Periodontal Maintenance. These different categories differentiate between cleanings that are for folks that have very little periodontal or gum involvement versus those that require more focused attention to the gums.
Are you new to the belief of regular hygiene visits and/or have a lot of dentistry already in your mouth? Even more of a reason to come and see us on the regular. Your hygienist and the dentist closely monitor the fillings and crowns you already have in your mouth. With their keenly trained eyes and instruments they are able to evaluate the junction between natural tooth and filling material or crown. This helps to ensure that they are still sealed. Any separation in this junction means that bacteria has easy access to your natural tooth! If there is a problem, the faster we can identify it, the quicker it can be taken care of before it has time to become bigger. Hooray!
As you can see there are so many reasons to visit our hygienists on a regular basis. This is not something that should be pushed to the bottom of your list of to do’s. Taking care of yourself includes your teeth too!
Happy Brushing and Flossing,
